Dr Girish Palnitkar

Dr Girish Palnitkar is a locally and internationally trained specialist anaesthetist. Girish completed his medical degree in Tasmania. After a wide variety of junior medical positions in Tasmania and Melbourne, Girish decided to undertake his anaesthetic specialty training. His final two years of training brought him to Canberra in 2006. After completing his specialist training, Girish completed a head/neck/eye fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. Subsequently, he completed his subspecialty training in cardiothoracic anaesthesia at the largest heart/lung hospital in the United Kingdom – the world-famous Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.

Girish returned back to Canberra in 2010 and now practices all aspects of anaesthesia at all major public and private hospitals in the ACT. His interests include cardiothoracic anaesthesia, transoesophageal echocardiography, ENT anaesthesia and ocular anaesthesia.

Girish plays an active role in the teaching of junior doctors and is planning on becoming an ANZCA examiner in 2018. He is the current Chair of the ACT regional committee for ANZCA, is the co-convenor of the ACT Annual Scientific Meeting (Art of Anaesthesia) and is an executive member of the Cardiothoracic Vascular and Perfusion (CVP) special interest interest group for ANZCA. Girish has also been an invited speaker to a variety of local and international conferences.
